Here are a few things to look out for to help you spot problems before they start.
Unusual Smells
Your a/c should never give off odors. If your are getting funky smells from your air conditioner it could be a sign of damaged duct work, mold, or worse. Changing the air filter may be a solution. If changing the filter doesn’t solve your problem then its time to make sure there are no clogs or back ups in you system. At this point it is best to get a professional a/c cleaning to fix your system right up.
Excessive Cycling
Do you notice your a/c turning on and off more then it should? This typically means that your thermostat is malfunctioning. Also this could mean that you have a leak in you house somewhere and cold air is escaping or warm air in entering. Inspect your home for leaks and make sure your thermostat is working correctly.
Tripping Circuit Breakers
Are your Circuit Breakers tripping when you try to cool your home? If your answer is yes then watch out you may have electrical problems. Turn it off NOW. I’ll wait… Now call a professional a/c service now and and don’t turn on your system until it gets a proper inspection
