Now to be on the safer side, make sure you power off your AC before attempting to open the thermostat. After you have completely turned off your unit, you can now carefully open the thermostat, and replace the battery.

Changing The AC Filter

Irrespective of your AC brand, changing the air filter is pretty easy and straight forward. Now the first step is to get a compatible AC filter for your unit. Then, you power off your unit completely. In fact, it is advisable that you unplug your unit from the power source before working on it.

Haven powered off the AC, now carefully remove the old air filter and replace it with the new one.

Cleaning The Drain Line

If you wish to clean the drain line of your AC, make sure you unplug the AC from the power source before you begin. After you have successfully unplugged the unit from its power source, you can now start your sanitation exercise on the drain line.

In conclusion, though it is pretty easy for AC owners to change thermostat batteries, change AC filter, clean the drain line, etc; safety must be paramount when embarking on a DIY journey.
